Lamech (Father of Noah, Lived 777 years) 7x in the Bible

Summary

Lamech the father of Noah lived to be 777 years old, and he appears exactly 7 times in the Bible (Pure – there are 5 antimentions of Lamech, of Cain’s line).

Lamech’s age of death may have been a warning and sign from God to everybody on the earth to listen to his prophecy of his son Noah. The antediluvian world was well familiarized with 7 as God’s number. They knew about God’s warning to Cain of sevenfold vengeance- which wasn’t a warning to Cain, but to anybody who thought about slaying Cain. The proof of this is found in Genesis 4:24 when the Lamech of Cain’s line self-boasted that anybody who tried to slay himself would be avenged 77 times. His use of adding a repdigit was one-upped by God when the Lamech of Seth’s line died at 777 years old.

The people of that time also knew that Enoch, a prophet who walked with God, was the 7th from Adam. By giving his son the name of Noah, Lamech prophesied to the people that- This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed. (Genesis 5:29) Notice how he uses the word “us”. Lamech was prophesying to those who were with him, as he was inspired to name Noah, who would grow up to become a preacher of righteousness (2 Peter 2:5). Sadly, nobody listened to Noah’s preaching, nor did they pay any heed to his father’s prophecy after hearing he died a young man at exactly 777 years old, a statistical anomaly at that time as it was ~150 years earlier than the average lifespan.

It’s also worth noting that Lamech’s father Methuselah outlived him, which made him the 7th man to die in Seth’s line:

And lastly, the verse that mentions Lamech’s age of 777 years (Gen 5:31) is exactly 777 words away from “the flood” in Genesis 7:7.
